A kick-start for fuel cells

Since resources such as coal, gas and oil are limited, alternative energy generating technologies are urgently needed. CNT offers wide-ranging opportunities to develop environmentally compatible alternative methods of energy generation. CarboPlate is a project initiated by the “Energy and Environment” section of Inno.CNT.

Evonik Industries is one of the five partners working on this project because energy efficiency is a megatrend and a key growth driver for its business.

Fuel cells as an alternative source of energy

The CarboPlate project focuses on improving fuel cell technology. A bipolar plate is the central element in this technology. CarboPlate aims to produce innovative CNT-modified multi-component compounds with better flow properties for injection-molding of bipolar plates and fuel cell applications. Incorporating CNTs into polymers opens up new possibilities for faster and thus more economical injection molding of bipolar plates.

The new technology should improve the performance of PEM fuel cell systems. At the same time, as a new basis for the production of all types of injection-molded articles with an improved property profile, it should open up access to new markets and applications.
