Teaming up to find new solutions

Carbon nanotubes (CNT) have enormous potential. They can greatly improve the mechanical, electronic and thermal properties of materials.

Experts assume that the future global market for CNT-based products will be worth billions. All industries stand to benefit from carbon nanotubes. Evonik has recognized this potential and therefore joined the Inno.CNT alliance.

This innovation alliance is working on practical applications for carbon nanotubes in the areas of energy and the environment, mobility and lightweight construction. It has more than 70 members - universities, institutes and companies - who are working on 18 projects to develop basic technology platforms and innovative applications. Its work is sponsored by the German Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). Alongside specific applications for CNTs, the focus is on interface technologies and safety. All projects are carefully matched and closely interlinked.

Energy, environment, mobility, lightweight construction and basic research

Evonik Industries is working on the following projects:

• CarboDis, which on basic technical principles to improve understanding of CNTs and optimize their integration into various polymeric structures
• CarboCar, which is working on novel composites for the construction of airplanes and automobiles.
• CarboPlate, which focuses on optimizing fuel cell technology.

CarboSafe

Evonik Industries is also following the CarboSafe project very closely. This project focuses on the safe use of CNTs.more
