Over fifty years’ experience

Nanostructured materials are not really new. In the Ancient World, synthetic carbon blacks were used in painting. They have also been used for centuries for the coloration of lead crystal glass. Ruby red glass is produced using nanoscale clusters of gold.
Know-how

Evonik has production expertise

Nanoscale materials have also been used in industrial production for a very long time. For example, in April 1949 the former Degussa - one of the companies from which Evonik was subsequently formed - placed an an advertisement in a trade journal for AEROSIL®, a substance containing primary particles with dimensions of between 4 and 20 millimicrons. However, these miniscule primary particles were not present in AEROSIL® in their original form: They were amalgamated during the production process to form aggregates and agglomerates.

Today, Evonik is one of the world’s leading producers of fine-particle products, with decades of experience in the production and handling of such substances.
